What Is Acne?

Acne is a common skin disease that causes pimples. Pimples form when hair follicles under your skin clog up. The most common spots you'll see acne are the face, neck, chest, and back.

Anyone can get acne, but it is most common in teenagers and young adults.

What causes acne?

No one knows exactly what causes acne. Hormone changes (such as puberty or pregnancy) are thought to play a role. Stress doesn't cause acne, but it can make acne worse. There are many myths about what causes acne. Foods like chocolate, fried foods, greasy foods are often blamed. But there is little evidence that foods have much effect on acne in most people. Dirty skin is another myth. Blackheads and pimples are not caused by dirt.
