What are the Costs of Assisted Living?
Since the level of care varies, there is also variation in the levels of costs and
fees associated with each level. When a senior citizen or family member contacts
the assisted living of choice for a tour, the specific cost for care should be discussed
at that time. Typical questions to ask when contacting an assisted living:
- What kinds of services are covered in the monthly fees?
- What services are not covered in the monthly fees?
- What types of payments are accepted? Medicare, Medicaid/Medicaid Waiver, long term health insurance, veterans’ benefits or private pay?
- What are the policies regarding the senior citizen when their funds run out?
- Is there a security deposit needed?
In general, Medicare does not reimburse for care services associated with assisted living. There may be one cost for room and board while adding supplemental services may require additional fees be paid. Be sure to ask all questions prior to signing any contracts.
